Maskne…. ?

Maskne, the skin woe caused by wearing face masks, has become a common struggle in our 'new normal'. This article offers practical tips to combat maskne, including proper cleansing, moisturising and regular mask changes. It also highlights skin supplements and online consultations as ways to achieve healthy, blemish-free skin. Say goodbye to maskne!
So not only do we have to adapt to this ‘new normal’ of wearing face masks all the time, we now have the not-so-lovely maskne to contend with!
Does this sound familiar to you?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Unlike normal acne, which is usually caused by hormonal changes, maskne is caused by friction from your mask rubbing on the skin or trapped moisture creating the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive, resulting in breakouts.
Maskne causes:
Dryness
Redness
Breakouts
Congestion
Irritation directly where your mask comes into contact with your skin
How can I help clear my maskne?
If masks are becoming part of our everyday life, we need to help our skin adjust to this, allowing it to stay healthy and comfortable, giving you more confidence when you take the mask off.
Here at MJ's we have some tips to help keep maskne at bay.
Tip 1: Cleanse Your Face
Double cleanse the skin twice a day with a gentle cleanser such as Sebuwash or Cleansing Lotion to remove any dirt, make-up and bacteria lying on the skin’s surface. This will leave your skin feeling fresh and clean. Our Environ Focus Care Clarity range includes products specially formulated to clean, control and clear the root causes of breakouts, using proven ingredients like salicylic acid, AHAs and tea tree oil.
Tip 2: Moisturise
By using a moisturiser with vitamins A, C, E and antioxidants, you are helping your skin’s overall health, keeping it hydrated, healthy and less susceptible to damage.
Tip 3: Protect
By using the mineral sunscreen RAD SPF 15, which uses titanium oxide, you are creating a barrier on the skin. As it is not absorbed, the sunscreen can act as a shield between your skin and the mask.
Tip 4: Change Your Mask Regularly
If wearing a mask all day, try to change it every 4–6 hours. Wash reusable cloth masks at the end of each day to stop bacteria building up inside the fabric.
Tip 5: Feed the Skin from Within
Skin Accumax is a wonder-working supplement specially formulated for those with problematic, acne-prone skin. It helps clear blemishes without dryness, relieves redness and supports healthy cells. The advanced formula combines vitamins A, C, E and phytonutrients to work from the inside out, promoting a clearer, more radiant complexion.
The newly launched Clear Biome helps support stressed skin and those pesky, painful under-skin bumps. Containing four unique bacteria strains with zinc, it helps address problematic and stressed skin. Stress, diet, antibiotics and some medications are known to cause imbalances in the gut microbiome, which can result in problematic skin.
It is designed to work from the inside out, feeding the gut with beneficial bacteria to clarify and brighten the skin. The unique combination helps support gut health, maintain skin immunity, support skin health and balance the skin’s natural barrier.
Skin Vitality 1 contains 25 vitamins and minerals, plus botanicals to help promote healthy skin. Because nutrients work best together, a multivitamin will support the work of your targeted skincare supplements.
